TV survives late push by Eagles

The Turkey Valley boys’ basketball team (12-7, 10-5 UIC) survived every punch Clayton Ridge threw at it Thursday and limited offensive opportunities for the Pirates Friday in a pair of double UIC wins late last week.

Redemption
   There was a lot of action up and down the court Thursday as the Trojans delivered a loss to Clayton Ridge (13-7, 10-5 UIC), making up for a 13-point loss a couple weeks ago.
   Turkey Valley took an early 13-8 lead after the first quarter. Moving to the second frame, the Trojans were able to go up 23-16 at the half. The Eagles made it quite a game and tied it up in the third 31-all. However, the Trojans didn’t panic and pulled away with the win in the fourth period.
   Topping the Trojans in scoring with 19 points was Oliver Schmitt. Noah Hanson was next with seven points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Russell Nieman also had seven points to go with four rebounds.

UIC road game
   Playing in their third game of the week, the tired legs showed Friday as the Trojans were lucky to escape Postville (2-19, 2-14 UIC) with the 57-55 victory.
Hanson had the hot hand of the night with 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Also in double figures was Schmitt with 12 points, along with Calvin Bodensteiner who put in 10 points and snared seven boards.

Final week
   In the last week before the postseason, the Trojans were at Wapsie Valley Monday, Feb. 6, and will wrap up the conference season Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Kee High.
