TV victorious over Bulldogs

By Becky Walz,

The Turkey Valley baseball team (5-14, 5-8 UIC) had things rolling Thursday night, defeating MFL MarMac (10-13, 8-6 UIC) at home, 7-5.
“We did a good job of scoring runs in multiple innings as we played with lead,” said Trojan coach Dan Stepan. “And Oliver Schmitt did a good job pitching for us.”
Noah Hanson and Calvin Bodensteiner scored for the Trojans in the first allowing TV to take the early lead. The Bulldogs cut the advantage in half in the third when Karter Decker reached second base on a Trojan error. Moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by Cullen McShane, Decker later stole home to put MFL MarMac on the board.
TV went back to work as Dylan Reicks led off the bottom half of the third frame with a single and reached second on a Bulldog throwing error. Plagued with errors, MFL MarMac allowed Bodensteiner to reach base for a second time in the game as Reicks and Bodensteiner later scored the Trojans’ two runs in the inning.
The Trojans continued to string the hits together with two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead. MFL MarMac mounted a comeback in the top of the seventh as Decker, McShane and Max Havlicek all scored for the Bulldogs. Eventually TV forced the visitors to leave the tying runs stranded as the Trojans came up with the crucial final outs of the game for the win.
Schmitt picked up the win for TV. He went five innings, giving up three hits and striking out five. Hanson threw in relief for TV. The Trojan had six hits by six different players — Hanson, Reicks, Kalvin Langreck, Caleb Kurtenbach, Schmitt and Treyton Hulbert.
Throwing for the Bulldogs were Ben Krambeer and Parker Kuehl. MFL MarMac out-hit the Trojans, connecting for seven, including a double by Austin Schlee. Knocking out singles were Havlicek, Decker, McShane, Chauncey Drahn and Kaden Stocker.
