On a roll
Four Vikes in double figures lifted Decorah over New Hampton (3-4, 1-1 NEIC) Friday, 88-38, at home.
“Our guys played with good-paced intensity. We shared the ball well, ran the floor and rebounded well,” said Coach Jonathan Carlson.
Out of the gate, Decorah was hitting the shots they took to lead 26-8 after the first eight minutes. By halftime, the lead sat at 36-19 and was extended to 61-31 with eight minutes to play.
Doing a bulk of the scoring for the Vikings were Joe Bockman and Ben Bockman, who had 24 and 21 points respectively. J. Bockman was 5-for-7 from three-point land, while B. Bockman was 5-for-5 beyond the arc. Jacob Pipho contributed 15 points to go with six rebounds and four assists. Also, in double digits was Noah Storts with 11 points, with seven boards. Win number five
Close start to finish, the Vikings pulled off the come-from-behind win, 49-48, over Rushford-Peterson (Minn.) Saturday on the court at Luther College in the Border Battle.
“I am proud of how our kids battled adversity, overcame and persevered. I am confident they will continue to improve with each game we play,” said Coach Carlson.
While trailing for much of the game, the Vikings kept the game within reach, never falling behind by more than five. A shot at the buzzer gave Rushford-Peterson a 14-11 advantage after the first quarter. At halftime, the Trojans continued to hold a slim 25-21 lead. With eight minutes left to play R-P was on top 35-34; however, Decorah held the visitors scoreless for nearly four minutes to take a 47-42 lead. As time ticked off the clock, the Viking defense kept the Trojans from scoring the winning basket for the win.
B. Bockman knocked down 15 points, while J. Bockman added nine. At the rim it was Wemark leading the way again with seven boards, while Storts had six and Joe Hjelle pulled down five.
