UIC girls’ team scores
1. Clayton Ridge 447; 2. Postville 461; 3. North Fayette Valley 463; 4. South Winn 474; 5. Central Elkader 480; 6. MFL MarMac 501; 7. Turkey Valley 552

After Mother Nature interrupted much of the golf season, the temperatures were warm with light winds Tuesday as the Upper Iowa Conference girls’ golf teams descended on the South Winn Golf and Country Club for the annual tournament.
Clayton Ridge claimed the top spot with 447 followed by Postville’s 461. The Warriors carved out a team score of 474 in fourth, while the Trojans finished with 552 points in seventh. Overall medalist was MFL MarMac’s Miranda Lang with a 101.

Hageman runner-up
Leading the Warriors, Katrina Hageman fired a 107 (58-49) in a tie for the runner-up spot with Destiny Klemp of Clayton Ridge and Kylee Whalen of Postville.
Hageman wasn’t the only all-UIC honoree for South Winn either, as Elizabeth Bohr finished 13th with 119 (62-57) and Ruthie Frana slid into 15th place after fashioning at 120 (56-64). Paige Jaster bundled up the team score with a 128 (64-64). Finishing out the Warrior roster for the day were Annie Ondrashek (66-64-130) and Brooke Steffans (66-66-132).

Seventh place Trojans
“After losing four of our top golfers from our UIC championship team from a year ago, we knew we might struggle a bit this year. Then the weather took away most of our practice time and meet days were just a matter of survival most days,” pointed out TV coach John Reicks. “I was glad to see the girls battle and compete today. They seemed to enjoy themselves despite the seventh-place finish.”
Trojan senior Tess Franzen (62-57-119) earned All-UIC honors for the second year in a row with a 13th place finish. The top 15 girls and ties earned medals.
“For Tess, this was her eighth medal in eight meets this year, a pretty solid senior season to say the least,” noted Coach Reicks.
Sophomore Mariah Throndson (73-70-143) placed 33rd, while junior newcomers Alison Leibold and Abby Schmitt both shot identical scores of 145 to tie for 35th place. Promising freshmen Morgan Vsetecka (148) and Sofia Rivera (162) completed the Lady Trojan scorecard.

Regional Friday
The Warriors and Trojans will compete in the Class 1A Region 5B regional at Tri City Golf Club Friday, May 13, at 10 a.m. They will be competing for the chance to advance to golf at the regional final Wednesday, May 18, in Grundy Center. Other teams who will be on the course in Luana on Friday are Central Elkader, Clayton Ridge, Ed-Co, Maquoketa Valley, Postville and Starmont.
