Vikes clash with Riverhawks in district opener

By Becky Walz,

It continues to be a see-saw of wins and losses for the Decorah football team (2-3, 0-1) as the Vikings fell to Mason City (3-2, 1-0) to open district action Friday night on the road 13-7.
“It was a very hard-fought, competitive game and we came up just short. We made many great plays, and our defense was excellent. Offensively we moved the ball well at times, but just could not come up with a score,” said Coach Pat Trewin. “We see our team as a family, we win together and lose together. We have worked very hard and will continue to do so.”

Home cooking
The Vikes are back at home Friday, Sept. 30, against Epworth (Western Dubuque) for another district game.
“Western Dubuque is a physical team and has played some very tough teams. They have a mix of seniors and young players and do not run many plays — they just work to run them well,” noted Coach Trewin.
