Vikes come up 10 strokes short

The Bridges Golf Course in Winona presented many challenges for the young Decorah boys’ golf team Thursday as the Vikings fell short by 10 strokes to Winona Senior, 399-389, in the 18-hole dual.

“I was proud of how our team stayed within 10 strokes of Winona. Hopefully, we can take this result and learn from it for future competition,” said Coach Rich Gaard.
Leading the way for the Vikes was Lane Rolfs with rounds of 47 and 52 (97 total). Ethan Holthaus (48-52) and Jack Knoke (47-53) toured the course to the tune of 100s. Rounding out the scorecard with a 102 was Joe Bockman (49-53). Other varsity linksters on the course for Decorah include Jon Egan (48-67-105) and Ben Bockman (53-53-106).
No team scores were kept for the junior varsity who shot nine holes during the day. Those on the course were Jackson Pipho (55), Carter Dlhy (55), Bradan Darling (57), Brody Hanson (58), Kaden Alstad (59), Hunter Quandahl (61), Shane Treangen (64) and Lincoln Robinson (66).
Friday’s dual at Charles City was washed out by rain showers.
Decorah was at Crestwood Monday for a conference dual and will host Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, April 26, at Silvercrest Golf and Country Club.
