With one regular conference game remaining, the Decorah boys’ basketball team (13-4, 9-2 NEIC) remains on top of the NEIC standings with Friday’s 48-45 victory over Waverly-Shell Rock.
Decorah opened the contest with a solid 11-2 first quarter; however, the Go-Hawks made a run in the second to close out the first half down, 20-15. W-SR continued to set the pace after the break, outscoring the Vikes 17-10 to snag a 32-30 advantage. It took a final period offensive surge by Decorah to pick up the win as Trey McCain iced the game late with a pair of free throws.
Charlie Robinson had a big game with 18 points. On the board with seven points apiece were Briggs Duwe, Jacob Pipho and Joe Bockman.
The conference title will come down to the Vikes final NEIC game of the season with Crestwood as the Cadets sit in in second. The two will face off Tuesday, Feb. 16, in Cresco at 7:30 p.m.
The Vikings have a long road trip tonight (Tuesday, Feb. 9) as they travel to Cedar Rapids Washington for a 7 p.m. contest. Thursday, Feb. 11, Decorah will have a second non-conference game as it plays at MFL MarMac at 7:30 p.m.
