A couple good days of weather and competition is exactly what the Decorah boys’ golf team needed to prepare for the fast-arriving postseason.

Middle of the road
Hosting a NEIC triangular Thursday, Decorah was sandwiched between Waverly-Shell Rock (305) and Charles City (343), as the Vikings finished with 336 strokes. 
The top medalist honor went to Go-Hawk Hogan Hansen with a 68, while Carson Gallop of Charles City came in as the runner-up with a 77.
Leading Decorah’s ranks with an 81 was Ethan Holthaus. Lane Rolfs came through with an 84, with Ben Bockman firing an 85. Jackson Knoke provided an 86 to complete the score. Also on varsity were Brody Hanson (96) and Jackson Pipho (101).
In JV play, the Vikes finished third with 537 strokes behind Waverly-Shell Rock (498) and Charles City (528). Scoring for Decorah were Carter Dhly (126), Kaden Alstad (135), Bradan Darling (136), Aaron Busta (140), Andrew Olson (141) and Hunter Quandahl (145).

Viking Invite
Teams were able to final compete in the Viking Invite Saturday, which had originally been scheduled for April. Holmen (Wis.) came away with the team title with 314 strokes, with Onalaska (Wis.) two strokes back. Clear Lake was third with 343 while Decorah finished the day with 358.
Medalist honors went to Onalaska’s Ethan Kramer with a 76 on the par 72 course, while Carter Gault of Holmen was the runner-up with 77 strokes.
Decorah was led by Bockman’s 83 with Holthaus carving out an 85. Coming through with a 94 was Pipho while Hanson rounded out the scorecard with a 96. Rolfs (97) and Darling (103) were also on the course for the Vikes.

Sectionals Wednesday
Decorah will begin the quest for state Wednesday, May 11, at Veterans Memorial Golf Course in Clear Lake at 10 a.m. The Vikes will swing the clubs against Charles City, Crestwood, Hampton-Dumont, Independence, Oelwein, Waverly-Shell Rock and the host Clear Lake.
