Vikes face offensive woes

The Viking softball team (5-4, 3-1 NEIC) welcomed Charles City (10-3, 4-0 NEIC) to Decorah Monday, suffering their first conference loss to the Comets, 11-4.
Charles City jumped all over the plate with five runs in the first inning. The Comets added a tally in the third before Decorah plated three runs in the bottom half of the third. With the score cut in half, Charles City went back to work for three runs in the fourth and finished with single scores in the sixth and seventh for the win.
Decorah combined for seven hits in the contest including two by Ella Kittelson, Ellie Luzum and Fiona Buresh. Kittelson also drove in two runs.
The Vikes are at Crestwood Thursday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m., then play at Clayton Ridge Friday, June 11 at 4 p.m. Decorah will host Oelwein in a varsity doubleheader Monday, June 14 at 5:30 p.m.
