By Becky Walz,

Stepping onto the hardwood for the final time in 2021, the Decorah girls’ basketball team (5-3, 3-0 NEIC) handled their emotions and the Indian pressure to defeat Waukon (3-5, 1-2 NEIC) on the road 63-56 Tuesday night, Dec. 21.
“This was a solid team win. It was great to see the girls smile and have fun on the court. There were a lot of great things that we saw that make me excited for the second half of our season,” said Coach Shannon Quandahl.
Off to a slow start, it took nearly half of the first period for Decorah to score, however once the Vikings were on the board there was no stopping them. After the initial eight minutes, the Vikes led 13-10 and maintained the advantage 27-24 at the half. A 22-point third period pushed Decorah out front 47-42, a deficit Waukon could never cut into.
