Stepping onto the home court for their final regular season game Monday, the Decorah volleyball team paid tribute to North Winneshiek school by wearing replica uniforms as the Vikes (12-13, 1-4 NEIC) fell 0-3 to Caledonia (Minn.). Set scores were 17-25, 15-25 and 16-25.
The Vikes had 23 kills, 96 attack attempts, 22 assists, 47 digs, six solo blocks and served 46-for-50 with five aces.
Sophomore McKinley Massman was 13-for-15 at the service line with two aces to go with a team-high seven kills and five digs. Leah Holland added six kills and two solo blocks, while Maddy Fromm had seven assists, four kills, seven digs and was 8-for-8 in serves with one ace. Dylin Thompson dished out 12 assists with eight digs and served 7-for-8.
Decorah now enters the postseason, which begins with the Northeast Iowa Conference tournament. The league tourney begins opening rounds Thursday, Oct. 12, at New Hampton at 6 p.m., and concludes Saturday, Oct. 14, in Charles City at 9 a.m. The Vikings will host Mason City (7-24) in Class 4A Region 5 action Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to the semifinal against Xavier in Cedar Rapids Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m.
