The Decorah baseball team (4-3, 3-1 NEIC) has been busy as of late, winning four-of-five games.
Conference action
In NEIC action Tuesday, the Vikings hosted Waukon (2-4, 1-3 NEIC), splitting the varsity doubleheader with a 14-1 loss and 7-6 win in nine innings.
“After a game one loss in which Waukon played very good team baseball and we did not do much right, we were extremely happy to come away with a game two win in which we really had to persevere throughout the later innings. We are still learning a lot about this team and look forward to the rest of the week ahead,” said Coach Adam Riley.

Last week in NEIC
Solid pitching efforts by a trio of young Decorah pitchers propelled the Vikings past Crestwood (0-7, 0-4 NEIC) Thursday on the road in a twinbill, 11-1 and 10-3.
“The top half of our lineup is continuing to manage at bats very well to allow us to score runs effectively. After a disappointing opening set of games, the senior leadership from this team led to several great practices this week and it really showed in this doubleheader,” said Coach Riley.
Fisher Tweten and Kaden Alstad were the winning pitchers of the night.
In game one, Decorah ended the game in five frames by the 10-run mercy rule after recording 12 hits. Game two was much of the same as the Vikings again had 12 hits in the seven-inning affair.

Friday at home
The Vikes put together a fine performance at home Friday as hosts to Mason City (4-2), claiming an 11-5 victory in non-conference action.
“This win was a direct result of this team having a focused effort on improving multiple areas of the game that we did not do well in our first night out. We threw and caught the ball well and had multiple game changing swings from the top part of our lineup,” said Coach Riley. “We look forward to continuing to make the same kind of improvements in other areas of our game.”
Tyler pitched five innings for the win on the mound, recording five strikeouts. Brady Stille climbed the hill for two innings in relief.
At the plate Sam Kleiner and Noah Storts swung the bat for home runs with Kleiner garnering five RBI and Storts four.
