Sweeping the competition, the Decorah volleyball team (4-0, 0-0 NEIC) came away on top of the Charles City tournament Saturday.
The Vikings first took two games from Iowa Falls-Alden (0-2) 21-7 and 21-10 before moving on to the host team and defeating the Comets (2-2) 21-10 and 21-13. The day ended with a convincing win over Mason City (3-2) 21-13 and 21-12.
“It was a good day for us, there were a few sets that we had to battle from behind. I have been pleased with the girls’ composure (to this point) when that has happened this year. Again, we still have some areas of concern that we are working through but overall, we are starting to settle in,” said Coach Gina Holthaus.
For the day Amelia Dugger had 13 kills to go with a 10-10 serving mark. Haley Gossman nailed down 12 kills and had 10 digs. Mara Holland dished out a total of 43 assists and went 19-for-21 at the service line with five aces. Defensively it was Headington coming up with a team-high 11 digs.
Decorah will have two non-conference games this week, hosting Saint Ansgar Tuesday, Aug. 31, at 7:15 p.m., and making a trip to West Union to face North Fayette Valley Thursday, Sept. 2, at 7:30 p.m.
