Vikes take Relays title; SW fifth

It was a picture-perfect night on the oval Monday as the Decorah boys track team hosted the Decorah relays. The Vikes won the day with 164 points. Waukon was a distant second with 115. South Winn came in fifth with 62.

The home squad
Decorah picked up five victories on the night. Highlighting the meet was a new school record in the long jump by Kaiden Quandahl at 22 feet 3 inches.
Two other individual won gold in hurdle events. Dakota Johnson broke the tape in the 110-high hurdles in 15.95 seconds, while Ashton Saltou won the 400-meter hurdle event in 1:00.53.
Two relays also came out on top. The sprint medley relay kicked off the running events with a first-place finish in 1:37.68. Members of the relay including Dakota Johnson, Ben Wymer, Kelley Gates and Cade Olson. In 1:04.30, Joshua Adam, Tommy Sexton, Gavin Groux and Johnson won the shuttle hurdle relay.
Several events came in the second. K. Quandahl was the runner-up in both the 100-meter dash in 11.41 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 23.50 seconds. Landon Quandahl clocked in at 56.99 seconds in the 400-meter dash. William Hahn had the second-best throw in the discus at 128 feet four inches. Groux, Gates, B. Wymer and Trevor Kuennen combined for second in the 4×100 relay in 45.15 seconds, while B. Wymer, Olson, Adam and Groux joined forces in the 4×200 relay. Punching the clock at 9:12.92, D’Mitry Lesser, Carter Dlhy, Mason Avila and Max Grimstad finished second in the 4×800 relay.
“This was the best weather for an early April meet in years. The guys competed hard all night and it was fun to see them rewarded with a relays victory,” said Decorah boys coach Joel Rollinger.

Warrior highlights
South Winn had just one champion with Kaden Barton-Franzen winning the high jump with the bar at 5 feet 8 inches.
Three individuals and one relay claimed silver for the Warriors. Parker Timp heaved the shot put 42 feet 3.5 inches for second place. Lukas Weiss went 16.38 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles while Kaden Bullerman finished the 400-meter hurdle race in 1:01.44. In the shuttle hurdle relay, it was Weiss, Brady Ohrt, Bullerman and Keagen Streeter finishing second in 1:06.16. Streeter claimed bronze in the discus with a throw of 119 feet 8 inches.

On the track again
Decorah is at West Delaware today, Thursday, April 13, at 4:45 p.m. Monday, April 17, the Vikes host the final home meet of the season at 5 p.m.
South Winn is off until the Decorah Invite Monday, April 17, at 5 p.m.
