Completing the regular portion of the 2021-22 season, the Decorah bowling teams traveled to Maple Lanes in Waverly to face the Go-Hawks Monday night.
The boys’ team finished the night behind Waverly-Shell Rock 2,783 to 2,972 and concluded the regular season with a 6-4 record. Baker game scores were 161, 196, 247, 193 and 205.
Leading the Viking field was Will Marx with games of 210 and 244, along with senior captain Gavin Sims (143, 215). Also competing for Decorah were Brody Anfinson (156, 172), Cade Averhoff (158, 170), Grady Brauer (171, 142) and Easton Luzum (134, 158).
“The young men all stepped up this season. While we didn’t have the success we thought, we never embarrassed ourselves and I am proud to lead these young men,” said Coach Keith Bruening.
The junior varsity boys beat W-SR 2,560 to 1,985 to finish the season undefeated at 10-0. Pacing Decorah were Daniel Skrade (383), Benson Newhouse (331) and Elliot Kleckner (337).
It was another close loss for the girls’ squad as Decorah dropped the contest 2,411 to 2,440. Baker scores were 163, 178, 155, 137 and 147.
Pacing Decorah with games of 196 and 181 was junior Rebecca Bruening followed by Grace Gerleman’s 157 and 191 and Lily Iverson’s 152 and 165. Others on the lanes for the Vikings were Sydney Hageman (145, 144), Paige Lange (154, 129) and Hannah Schnitzler (138, 162).
Leading the way for the junior varsity girls, who also finished 10-0, were Addison Wicklund (280), Anika Grinna (255) and Hailey Bower (242).
