Viking boys fifth at Lake City

Picking up a late-season tournament, the Decorah boys’ golf team competed at the Lake City Jewel Golf Club invite Monday with a fifth-place finish. Pine Island carded a 316 for the team title. The Vikings had a short turn-around as the hosted Caledonia Tuesday.

Another tourney
“The Jewel Golf Course was in very good shape considering the spring weather we have had. It was great to play a championship course with little wind or rain for a change,” commented Coach Rich Gaard.
On the par 71 course, Jackson Knoke was the leader for Decorah with an 85. Ben Bockman came through with an 88, while Ethan Holthaus fired a 92. Completing the team scorecard with a 93 was Brody Hanson. Other Vikes touring the course were Lane Rolfs (95) and Jon Egan (104).

Best 9-holes
Decorah was back on the course at Silvercrest Golf and Country Club Tuesday as host to a Caledonia (Minn.) team, winning 161 to 212.
With a two over par round of 38, Lane Rolfs was the medalist for the Vikings, with Ethan Holthaus the runner-up finish of 39.
Knoke was on their heels with a 40 as B. Bockman fashioned a 44 to complete Decorah’s scorecard. Jackson Pipho (47) and Hanson were also swinging the clubs.
The junior varsity Vikes were also victorious by a score of 192 to 212. Leading the charge was Aaron Busta (45). The trio of Shane Treangen, Bradan Darling and Carter Dlhy all had 49s. Additional JV golfers touring the course were Andrew Olson (58), Blake Jermier (58) and Lincoln Robinson (61).
