Viking boys move to 7-1

The Decorah bowling teams packed their bags and headed to Forest City Friday with the boys coming away with the win, while the girls dropped the contest.

Following the match win 2,741 to 2,414 the Viking boys move to 7-1 on the season. Baker game scores were 194, 237, 212, 170 and 202.

“This was an ‘ugly’ win as the boys did not adjust to the challenging lane conditions, but they were the same for Forest City,” said Coach Keith Bruening. “We will get back to work and improve.”

Leading Decorah with 177 and 188 games was junior Emmit Stemper, followed by Brendan Hunter (177, 181). Others on the lanes for the Vikes were Luke Iverson (175, 173), Jackson Rollins (148, 188), Tyler Thompson (159, 160) and Mason Hill (140, 141).

Falling 2,572 to 2,320 the Decorah girls’ record now stands at 5-3. Baker scores were 133, 165, 170, 115 and 153.

Topping the scoring for the Lady Vikes was Lexie Hauber (203, 144), Grace Gerleman (200, 128) and Rebecca Bruening (158, 169). Also scoring on the varsity lanes were Katelyn Christensen (122, 139), Annika Lensch (142, 124) and Paige Lange (169, 147).

“We bowled a state-qualifying team in Forest City and one of the better programs in Iowa,” said Coach K. Bruening. “We still miss way too many spares and until we can connect on them we will struggle.”
