Viking boys runner-up at Mason City; NEIC meet May 6

With eight teams competing at the Mohawk boys’ track invite, the Decorah boys’ track team finished second to the host Mason City. The Vikings garnered 113 points, while the Mohawks led the charge with 145.
Ideal weather made for Decorah to claim four golds during the meet.
Like he has been much of the season, Joseph Hjelle was at top of the shot put standings, throwing the weight 50 feet 1 inch.
Brady Hogan was the distant champ, winning the 3200-meter run in 10:10.21, and later breaking the tape in the 1600-meter run in 4:37.63.
In a trip around the oval, the 4×100 weight person quartet of Thomas Ostlie, Ethan Frana, Noah Breitenbach-Dirks and Hjelle stopped the clock at 50.15 seconds for first.
Five other events won silver for the Vikings — Haywood Stowe in the 100-meter dash in 11.49 seconds, the shuttle hurdle relay posted a time of 1:06.43. Members of the quartet were Austin Wilkins, Briggs Duwe, Dakota Johnson, and Jacob Pipho. The 4×200 relay (Addae Whitsitt, Drew Snyder, Duwe and Stowe) crossed the finish line in 1:31.60. In the 4×400 relay it was Kyle Renken, Cael Luzum, Whittsitt and Bennett Schutte coming home second in 3:36.25. The distance medley relay of Ben Wymer, Luzum, Corbyn Palmer and August Witt in 3:54.72.

Next week
The Vikings will split their team Monday, with some going to MFL MarMac and others to South Winn. Decorah will host the Northeast Iowa Conference meet Thursday, May 6, at 5 p.m.
