The Decorah boys track team took the title at the MFL MarMac invite Monday night, securing 160 points and winning nine events. The host Bulldogs were the runner-up with 141 points.
William Hahn was the king of the throwing events, winning both the shot put and discus. In the shot put, the sophomore heaved the weight 40 feet, 11.5 inches for the title and sailed the discus 143 feet, 10 inches.
The only other individual to win gold was Brayden Hartl, who broke the tape in the 400-meter dash, circling the track in 57.53 seconds.
Josh Adam, Peyton Webb, Gavin Groux and Hartl started the night with a winning performance in the sprint medley relay. The quartet posted a time of 1:44.97. Then it was the 4×800 relay’s turn. Winning the event in 9:38.16 was D’Mitry Lesser, Carter Dlhy, Grant Zilka and Garrett See.
In the shuttle hurdle relay, it was Josh Adam, Tommy Sexton, Gavin Groux and Dakota Johnson with the best time of 1:06.90. Trevor Kuennen, Kaiden Youngblood, Mason Avila and Thomas Hammel combined their efforts to win the distance medley relay in 4:10.56.
The 4×200 and 4×400 relays also won gold. In the 4×200 relay, it was Johnson, Kelley Gates, Ben Wymer and Kaiden Quandahl crossing the finish line in 1:35.34. Kuennen, Dlhy, Avila and Douglas Bentley won the 4×400 relay in 4:01.13.
The Vikes are at the Northeast Iowa Conference meet today, Thursday, May 4, at New Hampton at 5 p.m.
