After a quick turn-around from a Friday night match against Winona Cotter, the Decorah boys’ tennis team traveled to Independence for a match on Monday evening.
Playing under Iowa rules (where the boys can play both singles and doubles) for the first time this season, the boys came prepared and started fast. It was windy but finally warm and it felt like tennis conditions. The Vikes prevailed against a less experienced team 9-0 in all 10 game supersets.
“The entire team has been working on when to be aggressive and when to be patient and it really showed tonight. Freshman Liam Chamberlain, playing in his first varsity singles match really impressed us coaches. All the doubles teams are starting to take shape and gel together,” said Coach Matt Anderson.
The Vikings were to have hosted Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, April 12, but the meet was postponed until Saturday, April 23, due to possible severe weather. Decorah will travel to Clear Lake Thursday, April 14, then will be at Onalaska Monday, April 18.
