Viking defense steps up

By Becky Walz,

After Friday’s game was postponed due to weather concerns, the Decorah girls’ basketball team was back on the court Saturday night versus Saint Charles in the Border Battle, winning 73-36.
“It’s nice to play different teams from different states as we prepare for conference games. The girls did some really nice things in this game, and I am looking forward to continuing to build for the next two weeks with three conference games (Cresco, New Hampton, Waukon),” said Coach Shannon Quandahl.
The Vikes took charge of the contest early, leading 22-12 at the end of the first period and rolling out to a 36-19 advantage at the break. Decorah kept the Saints in single digits in each of the final two periods to claim the easy victory.
Bryar Duwe paced the field with 23 points, while Yazmeen Whitsitt connected for 18. Kylie O’Hara was also in double figures with 10 points.
Decorah is at Crestwood Tuesday, Dec. 11.
