Getting back on the courts Friday night at home, the Decorah boys’ basketball team (4-0, 1-0 NEIC) put the game away in the fourth to win 63-50 over Charles City (0-4, 0-1 NEIC).
“Give Charles City credit, they had a great game plan and played a great game, Coach Klap is doing a great job with that program. We are going to get everyone’s best shot every game, and although we didn’t shoot it as well as we normally do, our guys found other ways to score in transition, inside hitting Cael (LaFrentz), and offensive rebounding, then we got defensive stops when we needed to,” said Coach Jonathan Carlson.
The Vikes took an early lead 15-8; however, a second quarter surge by the Comets brought the visitors back to within two with the score 26-24 at halftime in favor of Decorah. In the third, the Vikes got a little more breathing room, stretching the lead to 46-41 before outscoring the visitors 17-9 in the final period.
It was a double-double night for sophomore Cael LaFrentz as he poured in 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to go with two blocks. Ben Bockman posted 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists while Trey McCain dropped in 12 points and dished out four assists. Also in double figures with 11 points was Matthew Bockman.
This week the Vikes continue NEIC action at Crestwood Tuesday, Dec. 12, then host New Hampton Friday, Dec. 15, with both games with an approximate 7:30 tip-off.
