Traveling to Fort Dodge Tuesday for the East vs. West tournament, the Decorah girls’ wrestling team picked up the Navy bracket title at the East versus West tournament, going 4-0 for the day.
After a first-round bye, the day opened with a 54-15 Viking win over Fort Dodge, followed by a 66-12 victory over Denver. In round four, Decorah defeated S.W.A.T. Valkyrie 54-24 and finished the day winning 46-18 over Sioux Central.
Helping the Vikings to the title were six grapplers who went undefeated for the day including Chloe Sheffield who wrestled at both 100 and 105 pounds, earning two pins and receiving a pair of forfeits. At 135 pounds. McKenzie Tollefson pinned her way to a perfect 4-0 day, as did Ana Simon (145). Lauren Luzum received a pair of forfeits and took 22 seconds in a match against S.W.A.T. opponent Alexa Anderson to go 3-0 at 155 pounds. It was a pair of falls combined with two forfeits for 170 pound Naomi Simon. Rounding out the perfect day at 190 pounds was Kamryn Steines with two pins and two forfeits.
The Vikings are back in tournament action Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Central Elkader at 5 p.m., then will head to the Xtreme Arena in Coralville for the Dan Gable Donnybrook Thursday, Nov. 30 and Friday, Dec. 1.
