The Decorah girls’ golf team competed Friday night and Saturday in less-than-ideal conditions, falling to New Hampton and finishing third in its own tournament.
Friday, the Chickasaws fired a 188 to Decorah’s 306. Leading the Vikings with a 68 was Hope Stahl. Sophia Fahey fashioned a 75. Elora Schnitzler (81) and Shelby Hageman (82) completed the Vikes’ scorecard. Also touring the course was Ella Carlson with an 85.
Back on the course just over 12 hours later, the Vikes hosted a four-team, par 72 tournament at Oneota Golf and Country Club.
Sumner-Fredericksburg dominated the links to the tune of a 382 score, while Crestwood finished second with 455. The Vikings carded a 497. Waukon did not field a full team.
“We played in a light drizzle from time to time but we otherwise stayed dry; however, it was cool and windy,” said Coach Scott Pierce.
Medalist of the meet was Sumner-Fred’s Chloe Bolte with a 76, with teammate Katie Reno (95) as the runner-up.
Carving out a 119, Stahl led Decorah with Carlson on her heels with a 121. Fahey was right there as well with a 122 while Schnitzler wrapped up a 135 to fill out the scorecard. Hageman ended the day with a 159.
Decorah is at Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, May 3, at 4 p.m., then waits until Monday, May 9, for the NEIC tournament at Waukon at 10 a.m.
