Viking wins keep coming

By Becky Walz,

With home games Monday and Tuesday, the Decorah softball team moved to 3-0 in the young season with wins over MFL MarMac and Waverly-Shell Rock.

First home game
The Vikings dominated the plate offensively as they hosted MFL MarMac (0-3) Monday night in the 10-1 victory.
It didn’t take long for Decorah to put a run on the board in the first inning. The Vikes continued to pad their lead in the third with three more, followed by a two-run fourth frame. The Red and Blue put the game out of reach in the sixth with four additional tallies to make it 10-1.
Decorah peppered the diamond with hits, collecting 11, including an Avery Shelton home run and four RBIs. Ella Kittelson was 3-for-3 in the batter’s box with a triple and double. Ellie Luzum and Bryar Duwe each connected for doubles as well.
In the pitcher’s circle it was Shelton twirling the ball for nine strikeouts while giving up just two hits.

NEIC victory
Tuesday night, Decorah took down Waverly-Shell Rock 5-1, highlighted by a two-run homer by Avery Shelton.
“This was an overall great team win for us. We stayed aggressive on the offensive end and played a solid seven innings of defense,” said Coach Jill Boyd. “We stayed composed during a few pressure situations which will allow us to grow as the season continues. We look forward to taking the momentum from last night’s game to the rest of our games this week.”
