Vikings bounce back with W

The Decorah girls’ basketball team (7-4, 3-1 NEIC) rebounded from Friday’s loss to Waverly-Shell Rock by taking the 68-41 win from MFL MarMac (8-4, 8-0 UIC) at home Monday night.

The Vikings took off early with an 18-13 lead and pushed it to 32-19 at the half. No matter what the Bulldogs did couldn’t put a dent in Decorah’s advantage as the Vikings drained 36 points in the second half.
“We showed some maturity in this game; bouncing back after a hard loss to Waverly-Shell Rock shows how much these girls want to compete,” noted Coach Shannon Quandahl.
Four Vikings were in double figures with Yazmeen Whitsitt and Bryar Duwe each knocking down 20 points including four treys apiece. Kylie O’Hara provided 11, while Sami Mount added 10 points. Others contributing to the win were Annika Franzen with five points and Haley Gossman with two.
Decorah is at Charles City Friday, Jan. 14, then hosts West Delaware Tuesday, Jan. 18. Both games are slated to tip-off at 6:45 p.m.
