The Decorah baseball team (10-3, 7-0 NEIC) began a busy week of games with an 11-1 victory over Crestwood (3-8, 1-6 NEIC) Monday on the road.
“We had a really nice start to what will be a busy week ahead of us. Pitching and defense paired with many quality at bats made for an efficient night of baseball,” said Coach Adam Riley.
Hit by a pitch, Briggs Duwe was put on the base paths in the first frame. Back-to-back doubles by Tyler Thompson and Keenan Tyler plated the Vikings’ first two runs of the contest. Decorah managed to put two more runs on the board as it ran through the complete line-up. Three runs in the third gave the visitors a commanding 7-0 lead before Noah Storts sent the ball over the fence for a solo homer in the fourth.
The Cadets took advantage of several miscues in the bottom of the fourth inning to score its lone run of the game. A three-run bomb by Keenan Tyler gave Decorah an 11-1 advantage allowing pitcher Cael Luzum and the Viking defense to wrap up the game with three up-three down in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Decorah combined for 10 hits, led by Tyler and Storts, each with a home run and single. Tyler also provided four RBI in the contest. On the hill it was Luzum picking up the win, allowing four hits and striking out nine.
