Vikings surge past Bulldogs

The Decorah boys’ basketball team (14-5, 9-2 NEIC) took down MFL MarMac (7-14, 7-9 UIC) Thursday in Monona, 76-37. In the process, Viking senior Charlie Robinson nailed a school record 11 three-pointers.

The Vikings came out firing, establishing a 25-4 lead after the opening period. By halftime, Decorah had opened up a 40-28 advantage and kept the momentum in the second half.

Robinson pushed Decorah to victory with 41 points, including the 11 treys to go with 11 rebounds. Briggs Duwe added 11 points to go with five assists and three boards. Trey McCain contributed nine points and three assists, while Jacob Pipho provided four points, six rebounds.


Coming up

Decorah will look to defend its 2020 conference title at Crestwood tonight (Tuesday, Feb. 16) at 7:30 p.m., in the regular season finale.

Decorah will open the postseason Monday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m., at home facing Independence. The winner will face the winner of the other substate quarterfinal between Crestwood and Charles City Thursday, Feb. 25, in Cresco at 7 p.m. The substate final is set for Monday, March 1, at 7 p.m. Other teams in the Class 3A Substate 3 bracket are Western Dubuque, Benton, Waverly-Shell Rock and Wahlert Catholic.
