Warrior girls race at front of pack

   Last Thursday, the South Winn and Turkey Valley cross country teams competed at Charles City. The meet was run as a junior/senior race and a freshmen/sophomore event. No team scores were kept.

Last Thursday, the South Winn and Turkey Valley cross country teams competed at Charles City. The meet was run as a junior/senior race and a freshmen/sophomore event. No team scores were kept.

Lady Warriors shine
   The South Winn girls’ team racked up the medals at Charles City, claiming four of the top 10 spots in the freshman/sophomore race, while five of the top 10 in the junior/senior race also went to Warriors, including the title.
   Fourth-ranked senior, Billie Wagner, raced her way to the front and broke the tape in 19:45.66. Crossing the finish line fifth in 22:34.61 was 26th-ranked Josie Tieskoetter. Megan Hageman, Anna Dietzenbach and Ella Willey toured the course together, taking eighth, ninth and 10th-places respectively. Hageman posted a time of 22:51.31, while Dietzenbach stopped the clock at 23:11.34 followed by E. Willey in 23:19.44.
   Medaling in the freshman/sophomore race were Karissa Wenthold, Maddi Jansen, Izzy Kuboushek and Tessa Phillips. Wenthold placed fifth in 22:41.79. In 25:02.83, it was Maddi Jansen taking eighth. Not far behind was Izzy Kuboushek in ninth with a time of 25:31.64, and Tessa Phillips in 10th in 25:33.46.

SW boys
   Finishing first for the Warrior boys in the junior/senior race in 19:56.31 was Hunter Wagner, good for 16th. Fellow senior Omar Flores toured the course for a time of 20:26.79 to claim 19th place. It was Bo Wangsness producing a time of 20:40.42, good for 23rd place. 
John Donovan led the South Winn freshmen/sophomores to the finish line. He had a time of 20:53.50 and took 15th overall. Brad Dahl was also in the top 20 with a time of 21:55.67, good for 19th.

Trojan efforts
   Turkey Valley had just three harriers on the course Thursday with junior Russell Nieman having the top finish for the Trojans. He raced to the finish line in 19:10.02, to take 12th in the junior/senior race. Also, in the race was Bode Balk who traversed the course in 22:50.58, good for 35th.
   In the girls’ freshmen/sophomore event, Morgan Wenthold went the distance in 27:21.23 to bring home 19th place for the Trojans.

Coming up
   Both South Winn and Turkey Valley will be at the Luther All-American race in Decorah Saturday, Sept. 10, at 9 a.m.
