Warrior girls race to top at UIC indoor

Teams from the Upper Iowa Conference met on the indoor track at Luther College Friday.
The South Winn girls claimed the title with 113 points with Central Elkader in second with 80 and Kee in third with 78.5. Clayton Ridge was fourth with 49, followed by North Fayette Valley with 42.5. Completing the team standings were Turkey Valley (37), West Central (26), Postville (19) and MFL MarMac (11).
In the boys’ team race it was MFL MarMac taking the title with 102 points, followed by North Fayette Valley with 91.5 points. South Winn finished the night with 87 points in third, followed by Central Elkader with 54. Rounding out the team scores were Turkey Valley (39), Kee (34), Postville (16), West Central (16) and Clayton Ridge (14.5).

Warrior girls
Five events won gold for the South Winn girls to go with five runner-up finishes and a trio of bronze.
South Winn’s Alyssa Holthaus and Abby Wagner took the top two spots in the high jump, with Holthaus claiming gold. Both Warriors cleared the bar at 4 feet 10 inches. Wagner went on to take a second silver in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet 10.5 inches.
Karissa Wenthold took the top spot in 2:50.81 to win the 800-meter run, while teammate Tessa Phillips broke the tape in the 3200-meter run in 13:44.51. South Winn’s 4×800 stopped the clock at 15:00.0 for gold. Members of the winning relay were Annie Hageman, Ava Franzen, Lauren Ondrashek and Wenthold.
Picking up a silver in the 200-meter dash was Cloey Zweibohmer in 28.64 seconds. In the 1500-meter run it was Josie Tieskoetter finishing in second 5:32.80 with teammate Franzen crossing in 5:46.35, good for third. Katie Shimek, Zweibohmer, Allison Hageman and Josie Tollefsrud teamed up in the 4×200 to finish second in 1:58.50. In the distance medley it was Shimek, Adele Conway, Izzy Kuboushek and Annie Hageman putting on a runner-up performance with a time of 4:57.73.
Tieskoetter added an individual bronze to her night in the 400-meter in 1:04.86. Also finishing third was the quartet of Kuboushek, Al. Hageman, Ondrashek and Conway in the 4×400 relay in 4:48.23.

SW boys
It was four winning performances for the Warrior boys that began in the field events with Kaden Barton-Franzen of South Winn winning gold with a height of 5 feet 10 inches. Clearing the bar at 5 feet 4 inches, fellow Warrior Irving Flores was the runner up.
In 8.31 seconds, Lukas Weiss won the 55-meter hurdles. South Winn’s 4×800 led the field to the finish line in 9:29.76. Joining talents in the winning relay were Abe Conway, Brad Dahl, Brady Ohrt and Eric Greve. The shuttle hurdle relay also won gold in 28.51 seconds with Weiss, Parker Timp, Barton-Franzen and Ohrt.
Conway circled the track in the 1600-meter run in 5:26.36 in the 1600-meter run for silver.
Picking up third-place finishes were Timp in the shot put (43’0”), the 4×200 relay of Timp, Chandler Riehle, Weiss and Landen Schnuelle (1:43.89) and the distance medley relay of Ohrt, Schnuelle, Brennan Franzen and Dahl in 4:16.95.

TV girls
The Trojan girls took gold in one event, the distance medley relay. Teaming up for a time of 4:56.10 were Ryann Schmitt, Morgan Wenthold, Hazel Nieman and Bella Stika.
Kinsey Reicks, Jenna Throndson, Nieman and Stika crossed the finish line second in the 4×400 posting a time of 4:45.82. In the shuttle hurdle it was Throndson, Nieman, Wenthold and Reicks claiming bronze in 38.64 seconds.
Fourth place finishes for the Trojans included the 4×200 relay of Schmitt, Throndson, Nieman and Wenthold in 2:01.80 and Raelen Manderfield in the shot put with a throw of 27 feet 4.5 inches.
Rounding out scoring for TV were Stika in the 400-meter dash (5th, 1:05.70), Reicks in the 200-meter dash (6th, 30.75), Ellaney Bodensteiner in the shot put (5th, 27’2.5”).

Trojan boys
Turkey Valley’s Burke Busta had the lone gold of the night as he topped the 400-meter dash in 55.82 seconds. The senior later teamed up with JD Kruse, Hugo Busta and Russell Nieman for a runner-up finish in the 4×400 relay. The quartet posted a time of 3:58.61. H. Busta also claimed bronze in the high jump with a height of 5 feet even. In the 1600-meter run, freshman Jayden Rausch was fourth in 5:53.29.
In 10:06.39, the 4×800 relay of Nieman, Avery Franzen, H. Busta and Rausch crossed the finish line fourth. Also scoring fourth place points in the distance medley were B. Busta, Isaiah Wheeler, Kruse and Nieman with a time of 4:17.22. The Trojan 4×200 relay of B. Busta, Nieman, Logan Busta and Kruse scored points in fifth in 1:47.54.
