Warrior golfers edge MFL MarMac

By Becky Walz,

It was a split for the South Winn golf teams versus MFL MarMac at South Winn Golf and Country Club Monday night.
The girls were victorious 241 to 262, while the boys fell 186 to 191.
Syndey Becker was the medalist for the girls, coming through with a 56. MFL MarMac’s Miranda Lang was the runner-up with 57. Also getting on the course for the Warriors were Katrina Hageman (60), Brooke Steffans (62), Ruthie Frana (63) and Hannah Pahl (73).
Firing a career-best 45, South Winn’s Brandon Frana was the co-medalist of the meet with Gavin Meana. Carson Wenthold was close behind with a 47, while Shaun Klimesh (49) was also sub-50. Rounding out the scorecard for the Warriors was Logan Baumler’s 50. Others touring the course were Jordan Baumler and Martin Horstman, both shooting 52.
“The team as a whole, played okay. We’re scoring well on most holes, but each player is having one or two holes that really get away from them. We’ll need to limit those holes and stop the bleeding if we want to compete in the conference tournament next week. It was good to see Brandon (Frana) play well. We’ll need others to step up and go low for us to compete going forward,” said boys’ coach Mike Wenthold.
South Winn will wrap up the regular season on the road Thursday, May 6, at Clayton Ridge. The Warrior boys will swing into conference action at Silver Springs Golf and Country Club, Monday, May 10 at 9 a.m. The girls will compete at the Upper Iowa Conference meet Tuesday, May 11, at Tri City Golf Club near Luana at 9 a.m.
