The South Winn golf teams competed in an Upper Iowa Conference dual meet against Postville at Tri-City Golf Club in Luana on Monday, April 11, coming away with a wins.
No contest
The Warrior boys won the dual, posting a team score of 211 while Postville did not post a team score. Sophomore Jordan Baumler won the individual medalist honors with a score of 48, and seniors Martin Horstman and Jacob Bohr tied for second with a score of 53. After a card back for the tie-breaker, Martin was awarded the runner-up medalist honor. Jackson Goltz rounded out the scorecard with a 57.
Others on the course for South Winn were Brady Lensing (58), Shaun Klimesh (58), Brady Jaster (63), Dawson Wenthold (76) and Aiden Rothmeyer (78).
“It’s been a tough start to the season as the weather has not been cooperative, and we, like most other teams, have had very little time to actually play outside. Prior to this meet, our players have probably only played a half dozen holes in practice,” said Coach Michael Wenthold. “We’re rusty, and I think it showed in this meet. Having said that, Tri-City is always a difficult course, with challenging par 3s, and the wind was a factor.”
Girls
Marking the first time the girls were able to play nine holes, culminated in a tie with the Pirates at 256. Leading the way for the Lady Warriors with a 60 was sophomore Brooke Steffans to earn runner-up honors. On her heels was Annie Ondrashek in a tie with Postville’s Olivia Lansing with 61 strokes. Freshman Elizabeth Bohr toured the course to finish with a 64, as Julia Carnesi completed South Winn’s team tally with a 67.
Also traversing the course for the Warriors were Kylee Tieskoetter (68), Aubrey Hageman (76), Ruby Timp (80), Bailee Frana (81), Avery Luzum (83), Megan Henning (83) and Hannah Pahl (84).
“We have only had three good days of outdoor practice prior to the meet due to the spring weather. With a lot of newcomers, we were really excited about the results,” said Coach Glenna Munuswamy.
