Warrior tracksters shine in Des Moines

Last weekend was filled with solid performances by several South Winn athletes at the state track meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
At the end of the meet, the Lady Warriors garnered 10 points to finish 24th in the team standings. The Class 1A title was captured by Nashua-Plainfield who picked up 59 points. In the boys’ race, South Winn failed to score in the field won by New London with 68 points.

Points for girls
Highlighting the weekend for the Warriors was the girls’ 4×800 relay who crossed the finish line second in 9:55.93. On the oval for South Winn were Billie Wagner, Megan Hageman, Josie Tieskoetter and Eryn Sabelka. It had been the second race of the day for B. Wagner who had already completed the 3000-meter run in seventh place. The junior posted a time of 11:14.57.

Also competing
The Warriors had 10 other events at Drake Stadium.
Senior Eryn Sabelka concluded her high school career in 10th place in the 800-meter run in 2:25.99. Also garnering a 10th-place finish was freshman Abby Wagner in the high jump, clearing 4 feet 11 inches. B. Wagner posted a time of 5:11.48 in the 1500-meter run, good for 13th. Finishing 14th in 4:28.88 was the distance medley quartet of Morgan Kriener, Josie Tollefsrud, Josie Tieskoetter and Sabelka. In the 4×400 prelims, the Lady Warriors finished in 4:26.57 in 24th place. Members of that squad were Kriener, Sabelka, Tieskoetter and Tollefsrud.
Isaiah Kruckman was on the track twice for the boys. The senior finished 11th in the 1600-meter run in 4:40.05 and 15th in the 3200-meter run in 10:27.69. With a throw of 43 feet 10.75 inches, Ethan Timp finished 17th in the shot put. Sam Conway sprinted down the track in 12.02 seconds in the 100-meter dash prelims for 19th place in his second showing at state in the event. Also on the Blue Oval was the 4×100 relay, finishing 18th in 44.88 seconds. Members of the relay were Keagen Streeter, Evan Bushman, Conway and Nick Holien.
