Warriors crown two UIC champs, finish third

By Becky Walz,

Despite graduating a lot of wrestlers from last year’s Upper Iowa Conference championship team, the South Winn boys’ wrestling team competed well Thursday at the individual tournament. The Warriors finished third with 171 points, behind MFL MarMac who had 220 points and North Fayette Valley with 218.
In addition, two Warrior matmen claimed titles with two others finishing second.
“I thought we wrestled well as we were able to get four wrestlers into the finals,” said Coach Jacob Elsbernd. “We are still young, but I loved our effort and competitive spirit. We are getting healthier and our guys are still making some nice improvements. I think we are starting to peak and will have two weeks to get some work in before we step on the mat at the district tournament.”
