Anytime South Winn and Turkey Valley face one another, it’s always a battle.
Last week was no exception as the Trojans hosted the Warriors, who were looking to lock in the season with an undefeated conference record Wednesday, July 3. South Winn managed to do just that as the Warriors swept the series, 12-0 and 8-1.
Game one didn’t take long as the Warriors’ Aubrey Gesing threw three frames in the no hitter. Both offensively and defensively, South Winn did everything right, collecting 10 hits and playing errorless ball. Addison Timp scored the lone run in the first. Two more in the second gave the Warriors’ a 3-0 advantage. Looking to gain some momentum, Trojan Jenna Throndson was walked and made her way around the bases before getting thrown out at home. A nine-run third inning for the Warriors led to a three up, three down Trojan at bat for the win.
The nightcap also went the Warriors’ way after three scoreless frames of game play. South Winn’s Alyssa Timp drove in the first run of the game on a bunt single. Then the floodgates opened for the visitors as 12 Warriors found their way to the batter’s box to score seven runs. In the bottom half of the fifth, Turkey Valley managed to load the bases with a walk to Makinley Lutgen, a hit by Annika Bodensteiner and a SW error. A second walk of the frame issued to Morgan Vsetecka walked in the lone Trojan run of the game. The 8-1 score held through the final two frames, giving South Winn the victory and the undefeated UIC season.

The numbers
Aubree Gesing combined to throw six innings in the doubleheader, recording six Ks. Bailey Kuennen also made an appearance in the circle for the Warriors, ringing up six.

The Trojans had just two hits on the day with a triple by Jenna Throndson and single by Bodensteiner.
Twirling for Turkey Valley were Bodensteiner and Raelen Manderfield.
