Warriors cruise to 19-0 victory on the road

By Becky Walz,

The South Winn football team (1-1) countered the week one loss with a win Friday night on the road over Maquoketa Valley, 19-0.
Friday night, the Warriors produced 458 yards while holding the Wildcats to 82.
“Our kids responded to last week’s difficult loss both physically and mentally in a complete performance. Keagen Streeter continues to demonstrate versatility having to switch positions on offense and defense and still playing very well,” said Coach Jason Ohrt. “Logan Hageman carried the offense with a near-record breaking performance. Coach Loren Straube orchestrated yet another shut out to go on his long resume. Our kids are so lucky to have his leadership. No assistant coach works harder.”

How they scored
Neither squad found the end zone in the first period. It was Logan Hageman who exploded for the Warrior offense throughout the game to score all three of South Winn’s touchdowns, including a 1-yard plunge over the goal line in the second quarter.
The senior added a 14-yard scamper in the third quarter and tacked on a 54-yard dash to score again in the fourth frame.

Numbers
While South Winn put up 458 yards of total offense, it was Hageman scooping up 290 of them in his 35 carries of the pigskin. Sam Conway gathered 90 yards on 10 attempts and Evan Bushman had 32 yards on five carries. Brady Ohrt completed 1-of-5 passes for 28 yards with Keagen Streeter hauling in the pass.
On defense, Conway led the way with six total tackles. Hageman had four stops, while Streeter and Bushman each had three.

Back at home
South Winn will host Clayton Ridge Friday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.
