Warriors end season on the road

By Becky Walz,

The South Winn football team (2-6, 2-4) sandwiched its two scores around five East Buchanan touchdowns Friday night as it concluded the year on the gridiron with a 40-16 loss Friday night on the road.

Another tough night
Sam Conway started the night off with a 17-yard run on a Warrior drive to score the first touchdown of the game before the Bucs punched South Winn in the mouth with five scores throughout the first, second and third periods. In the final quarter, Conway broke away into an open field for a 71-yard touchdown to round out the scoring for either team.

Stats sheet
Leading the ground game with 121 yards on 11 carries was Conway. Nick Holien provided another six carries for 45 yards, while Parker Timp had 14 touches of the pigskin for 41 yards.
Defensively, Conway was the man of the game with 7.5 tackles, including four solo stops. Keagen Streeter had seven total tackles, including six solo and two tackles for a loss. With five solo and two assisted tackles was Ethan Timp.
“We had a nice start with an opening score and a big third down sack on defense, but East Buchanan rallied with a very physical running attack and put the game out of reach.  I was happy we were able to get Ethan Timp a few carries on offense.  He’s always wanted to get the ball on offense and with how hard he’s worked for four years, we wanted him to have that moment,” commented Coach Jason Ohrt.

Left out
Thirty-two teams in Class A made the playoffs, with the first four teams in the district automatically qualifying for the postseason. With the Warriors’ record at 2-4 in the district, they finished sixth and did not make the 2021 playoffs.
South Winn will graduate eight seniors — Nick Holien, Trey Kriener, Logan Hageman, Sam Conway, Evan Bushman, Tony Greve, Lane Quandahl and Ethan Timp.
