By Becky Walz,
It’s going to be a tough road for the South Winn football team (2-3, 2-2) to win a district title after falling to North Linn (5-0, 4-0) Friday on the road 20-6.
North Linn is in the driver’s seat for the district title while South Winn sits third in the district with three games remaining in the regular season.
“We felt like we had the momentum going into the second half and started it with an eight-minute drive on offense. We just didn’t finish that drive and come up with points,” said Coach Jason Ohrt. “Our kids played a very physical game against the top team in the district. We were able to hang in with their big play offense with a quality rushing attack. Parker Timp had to step in due to an injury and played very well at the running back position.”
Can’t break through
It was all about the defenses in the first half with North Linn holding on to a 14-6 halftime lead. Conway put SW on the board first with a 67-yard carry to the house. The Lynx answered with a big play of their own with a 41-yard TD pass. In the second period, North Linn tacked on a TD before the teams retired to the locker room for the break.
In the second half, the Lynx padded its lead with a 43-yard pass play to the end zone to wrap up the scoring for the contest.
The nitty gritty
The Warriors picked up 216 yards of total offense, while the Lynx had 335. Parker Timp led the way with 90 yards on the ground, while Sam Conway had 89 yards.
On defense, Conway had five solo tackles and four assisted tackles. Keagen Streeter had five solo stops and two assisted tackles, while Ethan Timp had three solo and four assisted tackles.
