It was a triple win for the South Winn wrestling team Tuesday night as the Warriors won three matches and celebrated its senior matmen.
South Winn bested Postville 66-18, Class 1A No. 8 Nashua-Plainfield 39-34 and Starmont 45-27. The Warriors now have an 18-3 dual record for the season.
During the night, six Warriors went 3-0. At 152 pounds, senior Zach Taylor claimed a 12-10 victory over Class 1A No. 10 McKade Munn of Nashua-Plainfield and a pair of forfeits. Lane Quandahl (160) had three pins for the night. The junior threw Favian Salgado of Postville in 1:11 to start the night, then put Sam Funderman of Nashua-Plainfield on his back in 2:53. He capped off the night with a pin against Starmont’s Keegan McTaggart in 1:52.
At 182 pounds, Sam Conway used three different methods to win, earning a forfeit in the Postville dual, earning a 13-8 decision over Nashua-Plainfield’s Tate White and using 3:23 to throw Skyler Jaster of Starmont. On the mat at 220 pounds, Class 1A No. 4 Damon Meyer put Dorian Gutierrez of Postville on his back in 2:58 and needed 4:44 to throw N-P’s Landon Pratt. The senior also collected a slim 11-10 decision over Louis Hamlett of Starmont.
Wilson Perez of Postville was Ethan Maldonado’s first opponent of the night, falling in 4:50. The junior added a pin to his record over Kaden Wilken of N-P in 53 seconds. In his final match of the night, Maldonado received a forfeit.
Junior Ethan Timp (285) received a trio of forfeits for the night.
The Warrior matmen will have their final regular season meet Tuesday, Jan. 26, at North Butler at 5:30 p.m.
