Warriors handcuff Pirates, Vikings

The South Winn baseball team (10-4, 5-2 UIC) kicked off the week with wins over Postville and Ed-Co at home.

Hot bats
Tagging 14 hits, the Warriors picked up a win Monday via the 15-run rule win over Postville (0-8, 0-8 UIC). 
It took four innings of SW bats to shut out the Pirates while junior Nick Holien was tossed three scoreless and hitless innings in the start. 
Leading the way at the plate was Logan Hageman with a home run and single with four RBI. Senior Cael Kuboushek pounded out three hits including a triple. Providing doubles for the Warriors were Jacob Herold, Holien and Evan Bushman.

Non-conference at home
The Warriors picked up their 10th win on the season with a non-conference victory over Ed-Co (4-8). 
South Winn took the lead early with two runs in the first inning and never looked back capping off the win with the six-run fifth inning to secure the 1-run rule victory. 
Three pitchers for the Warriors in Streeter, Buchheit and Kuboushek combined for the five innings allowing just two hits. 
Offensively, the Warriors pounded out 11 hits with multiple hit performances by Ethan Luzum and Keagen Streeter. 
“I felt good about some progress in this game offensively and was very pleased with our pitching and defense,” said Coach Alex Smith.

Staying home
South Winn will be back on its home field tonight (Thursday, June 17) in a UIC battle versus Clayton Ridge at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, the Warriors will host a triangular, taking on the Decorah at 11 a.m., and Ottumwa at 3 p.m. 
Next week begins with another pair of games at Turkey Valley Monday, June 21, at 4 p.m., followed by a road contest at North Fayette Valley Tuesday, June 22, at 4 p.m.
