Firing on all cylinders, the South Winn baseball team (22-9, 16-2 UIC) continues to roll in the postseason picking up a round one win over Clarksville Saturday and topping Dunkerton Tuesday.
The Warriors will face a familiar opponent in the district final as they will host Kee High for the fourth meeting of the year in the district final Saturday, July 13, in Calmar at 7 p.m.

Semifinal
South Winn came out swinging in the district semifinal on Tuesday evening scoring five runs in the bottom of the first to take a commanding lead and they never looked back.
Braiden Todd led off the bottom of the first with a double and that started the momentum as the Warrior batted through the lineup with four hits in the inning. Parker Timp added a two-run home run in the fourth inning and drove home the winning run in the bottom of the fifth to seal the 10-run rule victory, 11-1.
Carson Streeter was solid on the mound going four strong innings in the start to pick up the win with Braiden Todd throwing in relief. Todd was just a home run away from hitting the cycle as he went 3-for-3 at the plate.
“Scoring early in playoff baseball games is a big deal and our guys really came out with great approaches at the plate. We were sound in all facets and picking up a win in a shortened game helps with our pitch counts going into Saturday,” said Coach Alex Smith.

Opening round
The Warriors opened postseason as hosts to Clarksville Saturday evening, defeating the Indians for the second year in a row in the opening round, 9-4.
SW struck early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and built up a 6-0 lead after four. Streeter dominated on the mound through the first four innings, surrendering just one hit while striking out nine and walking one to pick up the win. Clarksville didn’t go down easy, finding a way to plate four runs in the later innings, but some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth helped cushion the lead enough to prevent the comeback.
Timp had a big night at the plate going 4-for-4 while Brody Tieskoetter and Nolan Sabelka also had multiple hit performances.

Last week
Wednesday, the Warriors ran into a battle at Class 1A No. 3 Newman Catholic in Mason City.
Able to strike first in the game scoring in the top of the second inning, South Winn’s Kole Hageman scored on a Jordan Baumler single. The lead didn’t prove to last long as Newman responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Knights would add two more insurance runs throughout the game to secure the 5-1 win.
Five Warriors had singles in the game Streeter and Todd shared time on the hill with the sophomores combining for seven Ks.
