Playing host to Kee High Friday night, the South Winn boys’ basketball team (11-9, 9-6 UIC) took care of business, besting Kee (9-11, 7-7 UIC) in Calmar, 62-47.
The Warriors outscored the Hawks 13-6 during the first quarter to set the tone for the night. The home squad added 12 points to the advantage in the second, leading 33-14 at halftime. It was an offensive highlight reel in the second half for both teams, with South Winn putting up 29 total points and Kee adding 33.
“This was probably our best game since Christmas break. We played well on the defensive end of the floor, we made them earn most of their points, offensively we were able to get out in transition and get some easy buckets which got the offense turning,” said Coach Derek Taylor.
Senior Trey Kriener had a stellar night with 24 points and 20 rebounds. Carson Wenthold posted 14 points with five rebounds and six assists. Keagen Streeter provided eight points, 11 rebounds and three assists.
SW has two more regular season games to go before the postseason. The Warriors hosted Waukon Monday, Feb. 7, and will welcome Clayton Ridge to Calmar tonight (Tuesday, Feb. 8).
