The South Winn baseball team (4-0, 2-0 UIC) is on roll early in the season. After winning its home opener last week Tuesday, the Warriors picked up two more victories Wednesday and Thursday.

On the road Wednesday
In a big early-season matchup, the Warriors squared off with Class 1A No. 9 Saint Ansgar (2-1) Wednesday.
While the Saints were able to strike first with a run in the bottom of the third, the lead was short lived with the Warriors responding with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth. Jamie Kuennen got the scoring started for the SW driving home Keagen Streeter on a triple to right field. Brody Tieskoetter came up with a big two-out hit to drive in the third run of the inning. That proved to be the only runs either team would score in the game as SW won, 3-1.
Keagen Streeter dominated on the mound, only getting stronger as the game went along. He retired the last 12 batters he faced tossing the complete game while striking out 10 batters and surrendering just one walk and a hit by pitch.
South Winn had seven hits in the contest with a triple by Jamie Kuennen. Rapping out two singles was Carson Streeter. With a hit apiece were Carson Wenthold, K. Streeter, Kole Hageman and Tieskoetter.
“We knew going in this would be a highly contested game for us and that each pitch would be critical. We surrendered an unearned run in the third, but I give our guys a lot of credit responding with the three runs in the fourth. Keagen was outstanding for us on the hill and our guys really enjoy his energy when he is pitching and rally behind him,” said Coach Alex Smith.

Back at it Thursday
Playing four games in three days and back-to-back road trips to high level opponents, the Warriors knew it might not come easy, but South Winn picked up the 7-4 win over Wapsie Valley Thursday night.
The Warriors put up four runs early but gave up a big third inning to Wapsie Valley to draw the game even. Kuennen took the ball in the fourth and tossed three scoreless innings to take it to the seventh inning. After a Carson Wenthold single with advancement on the bases to third, Keagen Streeter was intentionally walked to bring Kuennen to the plate. Kuennen hit big two-RBI double, followed by a Braiden Todd RBI single to take the 7-4 lead.
Kuennen finished out the game on the mound to secure the win tossing four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out five batters.
“This was a great way to finish out our first week. We talked about getting in baseball shape over this first set of games, and much of that is the mental fatigue factor that can happen over long days on the field. I was proud of our resiliency when faced some adversity tonight and give a lot of credit to our seniors to keeping things on the right course all week long,” said Coach Smith.
