Warriors sweep Clayton Ridge-Central at home

By Becky Walz,

The South Winn baseball team (2-0, 2-0 UIC) took the first step toward reclaiming the Upper Iowa Conference title in 2022 with a thwarting of Clayton Ridge-Central (0-4, 0-2 UIC) in the opener Tuesday, 7-0 and 15-0.
The Warriors took advantage of their experienced line-up with runs scored in all but two innings in game one, including a four-run fourth frame to shutout the WarEagles. In game two, the Red and Gray needed just four innings to put the game away on the 15-run mercy rule.

Four Warrior pitchers (Keagen Streeter, Lane Quandahl, Nick Holien and Jordan Buchheit) threw 11 shutout innings striking out 23, allowing one hit, and walking just two batters Senior Logan Hageman with five hits in the doubleheader and 9 rbi’s!
“I was really pleased with how our pitchers were efficient throwing a lot of strikes, and offensively we got production up and down the lineup. For our guys to get a couple games under their belt and get into some live situations, it will give us a good start to be prepared for our upcoming games,” said Coach Alex Smith.
The Warriors will have a varsity twinbill Thursday, May 26. South Winn will play St. Ansgar at 3 p.m., followed by a game versus Wapsie Valley. The Warriors then return to Upper Iowa Conference action Tuesday, May 31, at North Fayette Valley for a twinbill at 4 p.m.
