Warriors take care of WC

By Becky Walz,

It was a great way to end the regular home season Tuesday night as the South Winn volleyball team (9-19, 3-4 UIC) defeated West Central (8-14, 4-3 UIC) at home 3-0. The Warriors won by scores of 25-12, 25-22 and 27-25.
A dominating opening set victory set the tone for the evening, although West Central pushed the Warriors in the next two sets with both coming down to the wire. The sophomore duo of Katrina Hageman and Avery Humpal led the way offensively with 10 and 8 kills respectively. Ali Heying dished out 25 assists and Eryn Luzum picked up 20 digs. Serving success was a big key to the victory with the team going 69-for-75 with 14 aces including eight by Luzum.
“I really liked how we came up aggressively in the first set. We had several service runs and limited any run on their part. In the next two sets, we couldn’t put together those same runs, but we really did a great job with our serve receive and defensively to prevent them from any kind of runs,” said Coach Alex Smith.
