Warriors take second at home; TV and Decorah compete well in regular season finale

The South Winn track teams hosted the Warrior Invite Monday night, with both finishing runner-up. The boys posted 150 points while the girls had 135 points.
Turkey Valley was on the oval in Calmar taking third in the boys team standings with 68 points and the girls finishing with 71 points in fourth. Decorah also sent its JV boys and a limited girls squad, with the girls taking third with 106 points and boys fourth with 64 points.

Tops for Warriors
The South Winn boys won five events. Lukas Weiss claimed two individual golds, winning the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 6.5 inches, and the 110-meter hurdles in 16.42 seconds. Senior Keagen Streeter won the discus, sending it 132 feet, 7 inches, while Parker Timp ruled the shot put with a heave of 41 feet, 6.25 inches. The final gold was won by Kaden Bullerman in the 400-meter hurdles. The senior posted a winning time of 59.33 seconds.
The Lady Warriors secured four gold medals enroute to their second-place finish. Alyssa Holthaus bested the high jump field, clearing the bar at 4 feet, 10 inches. In 2:32.60, fellow freshman Maddy Jansen broke the tape in the 800-meter run. Two relays also claimed titles — the 4×100 and distance medley. Morgan Kriener, Josie Tollefsrud, Allison Hageman and Cloey Zweibohmer crossed the finish line in the 4×100 relay in 54.63 seconds. The distance medley relay posted a winning time of 4:45.71. Providing efforts in that gold-medal performance were Katie Shimek, Zweibohmer, Megan Hageman and Billie Wagner.

Trojan gold
Turkey Valley placed six events on top of the podium. Jacqlyn Schmitt was the lone female to win gold. The senior sailed the discus 89 feet, 3 inches for the title.
Two Trojan boys were individual winners. Noah Hanson led the 200-meter dash, field to the finish line, in 23.25 seconds, while Ryan Franzen seized the 400-meter dash in 53.61 seconds.
Opening the night with a win was the sprint medley relay quartet of Troy Schmitt, Chase Hayek, Hanson and Franzen. The foursome posted a time of 1:39.68. In 1:39.36, it was Burke Busta, Hayek, Schmitt and Hanson claiming the top spot in the 4×200 relay. The night ended with a gold in the 4×100 relay of Schmitt, Hanson, Hayek and Franzen in 46.77 seconds.

Decorah efforts
The Vikes had small squads at South Winn. The lone winner for Decorah came in the girls’ shot put as Lauren Luzum threw the weight 32 feet, 11 inches.
Five other events claimed silver for the Decorah girls, including Grace Blikre in the 3000-meter run in 13:25.23. The 4×400 relay (4:57.94), the 4×800 relay (11:34.27), sprint medley relay (2:06.11) and distance medley relay (5:09.99) all took second as well.
For the boys, Luke Franzen had the best individual performance, finishing runner-up in the shot put with a best of 37 feet, 5.75 inches. The distance medley relay of Justin Fortman, Ashton Saltou, Jace Buddenberg and Kyle Pattison claimed silver in 4:27.58.

Conference
South Winn and Turkey Valley will be at the Upper Iowa Conference meet today, Thursday, May 4, at Clayton Ridge in Guttenberg at 4:30 p.m.
The Vikes are at the Northeast Iowa Conference meet today at New Hampton at 5 p.m.
