Undefeated in the UIC, the South Winn softball team (10-10, 4-0 UIC) moved to .500 overall with a sweep of NFV Monday before coming up short against Riceville Tuesday.

UIC doubleheader
The Warriors traveled south to West Union Monday in a varsity twinbill clash with North Fayette Valley (5-12, 3-1 UIC), returning home with a pair of conference wins, 2-0 and 9-6.
Game one was a defensive battle for the UIC teams as neither squad broke through to score until the sixth, when the Warriors scratched one run across the plate. South Winn added another in the seventh.
Striking out five, Aubree Gesing earned the win on the pitcher’s mound, giving up just four hits and walking three.
At the plate Alyssa Holthaus knocked out a double and drove in a run.
With the bats still hot, the Warriors took off in the nightcap with a run in the first and four in the second before NFV put up its first tally in the third. The TigerHawks added another in the fourth, but South Winn was not giving up as they pushed around home in the fifth. Both squads added three runs to their tallied in the sixth; however, the Warriors’ lead was enough to hold in the seventh.
Gesing picked up her second win of the night.
As a team the Warriors pounded out 13 hits. Adrienne Winings was 4-for-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases. Avery Humpal had two hits, including a double and drove in two runs.
