North Fayette Valley ran away with the title at the Upper Iowa Conference golf meet held Monday at South Winn Golf and Country Club. Coming through with a 372 was Clayton Ridge, while South Winn finished third with 376 strokes. Turkey Valley ended the day fourth with its lowest score of the season at 382.
South Winn had two linksters earn all-conference honors, while the Trojans had one. The top 15 place winners earn all-conference recognition.

Warriors honored
Carson Wenthold and Brandon Frana garnered All-Conference honors for South Winn.
Wenthold, a sophomore, put together two rounds of 45 to finish with a 90 tally in a tie for sixth place. Frana was in a three-way tie for eighth place with a 91 total, firing rounds of 46 and 45. Coming through with a 95 (47-48) was Jordan Baumler in 17th place. Shaun Klimesh concluded the team score with a 100 (52-48) in 24th place. Logan Baumler (55-51-106) toured the course in 30th place, while Martin Horstman (60-50-110) ended the day in 37th place.
“The boys played well and competed hard. It was awesome to have two all-conference award winners. Carson continues to have a very strong season, and Brandon’s performance was a big deal. Things were very tight between the second place to fourth place teams, with only 10 strokes separating them. This means that every stroke matter, which is an important takeaway for our Sectional meet on Friday,” said Warrior Coach Mike Wenthold.

TV on the course
The Trojans were led by junior Garrett Kurtenbach who finished in a tie for fourth place with an 18-hole total of 89 (44-45). As a freshman he had finished 19th and was an all-UIC honorable mention.
Senior Kalvin Langreck was trekking the course to fire a 96 (51-45), along with Calvin Bodensteiner’s 96 (46-50) as the TV pair tied for 18th place. Rounding out the scorecard was Brody Hackman in 25th with a 101 total (47-54). Trojan junior Jackson Vsetecka (54-58-102) finished 27th, while freshman Caleb Kurtenbach (58-53-111) finished in 38th place.
“Overall, I was happy with our performance. It was a little chilly out there and the boys were a little tired at the end, but they continued to battle. We had some wayward shots off the tee and missed some putts we should have made, but I am pretty sure every team playing today could say that,” said TV coach John Reicks.

Sectionals
It all counts starting Friday, May 14 as the boys will compete at the first round of sectional action. Both the Warriors and Trojans are in Class 1A and will compete at Silver Springs Golf and Country Club beginning at 10 a.m.
