After starting 0-3, the South Winn football team (5-3, 4-2) has turned the 2023 regular season around and finished on a five-game win streak and earned a playoff spot. Thursday night, the Warriors shut down the BCLUW (0-8, 0-5) offense, winning 34-0 as they celebrated Senior Night.
“Our kids came out and played a great first half of football. We controlled the clock with our running attack most of the night on offense. Defensively, we made some big plays on 3rd down this week to minimize BCLUW’s opportunities to obtain first downs or produce any points,” said Coach Jason Ohrt. “Finishing the regular season with a win on Senior Night is always a special moment for our players and families. Our eight seniors this year (Aiden Feickert, Quinn Huinker, Eric Kriener, Cody Meyer, Evan Monroe, Brady Ohrt, Brody Tieskoetter and Parker Timp) have all put in a lot of hard work to get our football program back on track. I’m very proud of their growth as young men over the last four years and appreciate all their efforts, leadership and sacrifices they’ve made for the Warrior football program.”

Complete shut-out
On a night when the Warriors rushed for 337 yards and picked up 391 total yards, the home team produced a solid game in all phases.
It started when senior Brady Ohrt carried the pigskin 43 yards for the score to get the Warriors on the board. Still in the first, Ohrt found Braiden Todd a crease and went 10 yards to the end zone.
Already ahead 15-0, Ohrt was back at it, first racing 40 yards, then diving four yards for touchdowns and a 27-0 halftime advantage.
Kyle Kuboushek scored the lone touchdown of the second half on an eight-yard carry in the third quarter.

Stat sheet
In total, Ohrt ran 133 yards on seven carries, while Kuboushek had 20 carries for another 105 yards rushing. Aiden Feickert had 11 carries for 56 yards with Nolan Sabelka and Todd also rushing for the Warriors.
Parker Timp led the defensive charge with 8.5 total tackles with seven solo stops, a sack and a pair of tackles for a loss. Todd and Kuboushek had four solo stops and one tackle for a loss apiece.

Playoffs Friday
As the No. 3 seed out of the district, South Winn will be on the road in the first round of the playoffs. The Warriors will go up against East Buchanan (6-2) on the road Friday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m.
