Warriors win at Clayton Ridge

By Becky Walz,

A road win is always good, especially when its without one of the best rebounders in the Upper Iowa Conference.
The South Winn boys’ basketball team (6-4, 5-2 UIC) did just that Friday night, defeating Clayton Ridge (8-3, 5-2 UIC) in Guttenberg, 59-50.
Currently second in rebounds in the UIC, Warrior senior Keagen Streeter is sidelined with an injury; however, with a bench filled with talent has stepped up to fill the void.

The Red and White hit the hardwood running to take a 20-9 lead in the first and maintained a comfortable advantage 27-19 at the half. That early lead turned out to be the difference in the contest as the two UIC squads were balanced in the second half with SW score 32 points over the Eagles’ 31.
“This was a great win for us as going to Clayton Ridge is always tough. We played really well in the first quarter, then let them back in the game in the second,” said Coach Derek Taylor. “We played alright in the second half and then Carson Streeter and Braiden Todd stepped up with some big shots in the fourth quarter to seal the win.”
Full individual stats were unavailable at press time; however, Coach Taylor noted that senior Carson Wenthold paced the Warriors with 21 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
The Warriors travel to Central Elkader Tuesday, Jan. 10, and host Turkey Valley Friday, Jan. 13, with tip-off for both conference games set for 7:30 p.m.
